What this site is for

This is patient education about the eye and periorbital area, published by Chongqing West District Hospital, a tertiary general hospital in Jiulongpo District, Chongqing. It is an area guide rather than a procedure page: it answers which of several structures is producing your complaint, which options address it, and how to choose between them. The individual operations are described in detail on the guides this site links to, and repeating them here would help nobody.

The distinction the site is built on

Skin, muscle, fat, fluid, lid position and the tear film are six separate findings that produce complaints which look alike in a photograph and are treated by means that have almost nothing in common. Almost everyone arrives with them merged into one sentence. Naming the right one is most of the decision, and a plan aimed at the wrong one is the harm this site exists to prevent.

What it deliberately does not do

It does not name products or brands, quote prices or dosages, or promise a result. It does not present a device or a cream as a way of removing a hood of skin or raising a lid, because neither does either. It does not describe surgical technique in detail, and it does not tell you which option to choose: that follows from an examination and from a measurement of lid position, and a website cannot perform either.

The limits of a website

Nothing here can tell you whether a bag under your eye is fluid or fat, how much of your lid position is skin and how much is muscle, or whether your eye is dry enough to change what should be offered. Those answers come from someone examining the lid at rest and in movement and looking at the surface of the eye, which takes minutes in person and cannot be taken from a photograph. Use this site to arrive at an assessment with better questions, and treat any answer you receive here as general information rather than as advice about you.
