If something has changed suddenly

Do not wait for a routine appointment. Sudden loss or blurring of vision, double vision, pain around the eye that is getting worse, a lid that will not close, or spreading redness and swelling around an eye needs medical assessment, and in some cases emergency care, rather than a cosmetic consultation. Say what you are seeing when you call, so that the right service sees you.

Arranging an ordinary assessment

Where the complaint has been present and stable, appointments are made through the hospital outpatient line or through the appointment service described on the appointments page. Say when booking that the question is about the eye area, and if you are travelling from outside Chongqing, say so, because the assessment and any measurements can sometimes be arranged across fewer visits.

What to bring

Bring a list of your current medicines and allergies, any previous surgery or injectable treatment around the eye and when it was done, and the names of any conditions you are being treated for. Say if your eyes are usually dry, gritty or watery, if you wear contact lenses, or if you use eye drops, because those answers change what is safe to offer.

What happens at the consultation

Expect a measurement rather than a presentation. The lid position is measured on both sides, how completely the lids close is checked, the surface of the eye is looked at, the support of the lower lid is assessed, and the brow is examined with the face at rest before any discussion of appearance. You should leave knowing which structure is responsible, what each option would change, what each would leave alone, and which guide answers your particular version of the problem.
